Former junior lightweight world titleholder Francisco Vargas is on a mission to become a world champion again.
“I want to become world champion again,” Vargas said (h/t ESPN).
Vargas will be looking to take another step in his quest when he takes on Rod Salka on April 12th.
“As always, I am working with discipline. I’ll deliver a great performance and Rod Salka will not stop me from doing that.”
A win over Salka could elevate Vargas to another title victory. Vargas (24-1-2, 17 KOs) lost his title via 11th-round knockout loss to Miguel Berchelt back in January 2017.
Salka (24-4, 4 KOs) is looking forward to the challenge as he drops back down to junior lightweight, riding a 5-fight win streak.
“I’m excited to be at 130 pounds,” Salka said. “Francisco Vargas stands in the way of me fighting [world titleholder] Berchelt, so he has to be eliminated. I can’t wait for April 12.”
