“I think a true fight is what I want to do next,” McGregor said, according to TMZ Sports.
“MMA next” he proclaimed.
The comment seems to be a little bit of a dig at boxing, where fighters such as Manny Pacquiao are trying to line up a megafight with McGregor following the success of his bout with Mayweather.
Pacquiao stated he has no problem with a potential fight with McGregor adding that while there had been some initial communication between the two sides, saying “but we have not yet had any follow-up conversations”, according to Agence France-Presse (via Yahoo Sports).
UFC President Dana White didn’t seem too interested in that fight saying “That would be weird because he’s [McGregor] under contract with us,” White told reporters.
“If that’s true, I will be suing Manny Pacquiao and whoever’s representing him. So, I’m assuming that’s not true.”
Reportedly, McGregor was slated to fight Tony Ferguson at UFC 219 on December 30th, according to Jesse Holland of MMA Mania. But those plans changed after McGregor’s incident with referee Marc Goddard while attending Bellator 187.
Nate Diaz is also a potential opponent for McGregor upon his return.
